YNOT – The Landrush pre-registration period for dot-xxx domain names closes Friday, and ICM Registry is preparing for the General Availability period’s launch on Dec. 6. The dot-xxx registrar began accepting General Availability registration applications Tuesday through a new portal established for the purpose: Buy.xxx.
According to a prepared statement, Buy.xxx is “a simple purchase portal featuring links to all accredited registrars to make finding and buying desired .xxx domain names as simple as possible.” Registrars will process all General Availability applications on a first-come, first-served basis.
“The pre-application process is like camping out for prime concert tickets, while Buy.xxx is like a convenient box office,” said ICM Chief Executive Officer Stuart Lawley. “We are really looking forward to opening the doors to everyone on Dec. 6.”
Lawley also said the Buy.xxx portal will be promoted in a media campaign to take place over the next five weeks in the U.S., the UK and Germany. The campaign will include national TV commercials in the U.S. in addition to billboards, newspapers and digital media in the other markets. Sporting events will be part of the mix, as well, including the Race of Champions in Germany.
