Intrigued by Brandi Love’s recent op-ed for The Federalist, Daily Beast Senior Entertainment Editor Marlow Stern reached out for an interview with the “pro-Trump porn star.”
Brandi’s Federalist piece was a response to a story by Charlie Peterson The American Conservative website that wondered if the increased popularity of OnlyFans during America’s coronavirus shutdown might be “a trend so ghastly you can’t help but sit back and think, would a global Islamic caliphate really be that bad?”
Political leanings aside, it is an absurd idea, as Brandi outlines so capably in her column. Stern agrees, saying the OnlyFans traffic boom “prompted The American Conservative to, well, lose its goddamn marbles.” Though there seemed to be plenty of room to squabble about politics, Brandi and Stern managed a civil discourse about pornography and how both the left and right handle the industry in America.
The way Brandi sees it, she has a lot of haters on both sides. When Stern suggests that while demonization of the adult industry comes from both liberals and conservatives, “it’s considerably more pronounced on the conservative side,” Brandi disagrees.
“The emails and hate I get are equal,” she says.“The feminist movement is attached to the left – it’s a ‘liberal’ movement; you may have some feminists in the conservative movement, but I’ve never met one. They hate me, which seems hypocritical because they push for women to have equal rights and push for women’s power. I have it. I have the power and I’m making the money, and yet they hate me. Go on my Twitter feed, you’ll see. Anytime the far left works with the far right to get something done, which is to abolish porn, we should all be afraid. That is a frightening concept to me.”
Brandi says she has her problem within the adult industry, too. It’s no news that the adult industry is mostly liberal and in the Trump era politics are a more common topic than ever. Brandi says she’s been in a few heated conversations on set, but while she’ll always stand up for herself, she thinks it can be best to avoid talking politics at work. That said, she’s never not worked with someone because of their politics and her own positions certainly don’t seem to have slowed down the MILF of the Year and AVN Hall of Famer – she’s been one of the industry’s biggest stars for several years and shows no sign of stopping.
