BERLIN, Germany – BEsmut, the independent porn studio founded by filmmaker Hunter S. Johnson, has announced the launch of BEsmutfilms.com, built through MyMember.site.
As a studio, BEsmut aims to create “narrative-driven pornography that brings a comedic, character-first perspective to adult film,” as the company puts it. The brand blends “cinematic production values” with “a focus on portraying enthusiastic consent and pleasure with honesty, giving performers room to be funny, playful, and genuinely present.”
Johnson got his start in the adult industry at the age of nineteen working in camming and small-scale productions prior to relocating to Berlin over a decade ago “to join the city’s independent, performer-driven film community.”
“For seven years he collaborated with filmmaker Erika Lust on her platform XConfessions, where his first solo-directed feature, Hunger: Who’s In Charge?, was nominated for Best Featurette at the AVN Awards,” the launch announcement noted. “He has since become known for shaping what he calls ‘comedy porn,’ storytelling that mixes humor with sexual honesty.”
Johnson has said the genre’s use of laughter can “make explicit content feel more approachable, particularly for viewers who feel nervous, inexperienced, or judged by the way sexuality is portrayed in society.”
Per the announcement, BEsmut “releases new films at a pace of about one per month, built around scriptwriting and production quality rather than volume alone.” The studio’s debut release, I Kinda, Sorta, Maybe… F**ked My Roommate, became the best-selling title on PinkLabel.tv and “set the tone for the story-first films BEsmut continues to make under its own site,” the launch announcement explained.
“Porn is hotter when it has a little personality,” Johnson said. “My aim is to make porn that breaks down walls and lets people engage with their sexuality in a safe, shame-free way. Comedy is a perfect gateway for that. That’s the whole idea behind BEsmut, really funny, really horny smut.”
