We’ve spoken before about reasons not to sell your site. Today, let’s talk about some reasons why you should.

I’ve had clients who’ve had their site for a long time and have seen growth over the years. Now, things have leveled off. That’s a great time to think about selling. I’ve seen many site owners in that situation who waited, and before long, sales were down. Before they knew it, the value of the site had halved or worse. Of course, it all depends on the effort you’re putting into the site. Sometimes, more effort and more marketing will move the needle up again. It’s up to you to determine the best move.

Here’s another scenario I’ve seen: Someone has a site, and they’re just tired of working on it. It’s making money and doing well, but they’re about to stop working on the project. If this is you, you’re better off selling. Like the situation I mentioned in the linked article above, the sales will no doubt tank if you stop giving it enough love, and the value will plummet.

Now, maybe you have a successful project, but you are much more interested in something new you’re working on. Human nature says you’ll give less and less attention to your existing project. If you neglect it, the same thing will likely happen as happened in the example above. Sales go down, and so do values. So think seriously about selling your existing site and use the money you get in the sale to invest in the new project.

Here’s another example. You have a successful paysite that you’ve had for a long time. It’s always made money and grown. So why should you sell? The paysite business has experienced a lot of consolidation over the years. There are a handful of companies controlling a very high percentage of these sites. And they are always in the market to buy more sites. The way the adult industry is trending, the power has shifted to the large companies in the paysite space and away from the individual owners. These are just a few reasons to sell your adult site. I’ve always said it’s better to sell a site a bit too early than too late. I’ve experienced some absolute horror stories in the broker market.
