LONDON, UK – SAPPHIRE is a sexy, funny and dark comic porn thriller that provides an unfiltered glimpse into the world of sex work, desire and BDSM. Produced by London-based dominatrix Cate McQueen, the film is set to be released at an exclusive screening in London on November 19th.
SAPPHIRE follows a young sex worker struggling to afford her mother’s medication. When she encounters a wealthy stranger who appears to offer a way out of her financial desperation, she begins to imagine a different future. However, upon reading a newspaper article, she discovers something that completely changes how she approaches the dynamic. As the lines between opportunity, obsession and control begin to blur, she must confront the true cost of putting her faith in someone else.
For McQueen, the film is inspired by events and encounters from her real-life experience, born out of her renewed creative inspiration following a visit to the Berlin p**n film festival, where she was struck by the ambition and artistry of the work being produced. The first-time filmmaker has submitted SAPPHIRE to a number of adult film and fetish festivals across Europe where she hopes the film will reach audiences within independent cinema, adult filmmaking and fetish culture.
McQueen says: “When I came back from the Berlin p*rn film festival, I knew I needed to write and produce something special. I was so inspired by everyone, the talent, the productions, the ambition of what people were making. It reminded me why I got into making porn in the first place”.
McQueen continues “Sapphire is auto-fiction, which means it’s somewhere between true and fantasy. I can see myself in the role and the role is a bit of me, even if I’d rather not admit it”.
“When I was writing it, I kept coming back to the question of who’s actually in charge here? Because it shifts, and it’s not clean. There is tension and the tension is really what the whole film thrives on. I wanted to make sure that each detail in the s3x scenes moves the story forward and although everything is there to be hot it’s also there for purpose and context.”
Blending provocative storytelling with dark humor and an uncompromising look at London’s sex industry, SAPPHIRE challenges the fantasy of the knight in shining armor. Is this stranger the answer to her prayers or the beginning of something far more dangerous?
