Lopez wrote the provocative and cathartic storyline from a true-life experience, and delivers a powerful performance as Alicia, a church-going good girl who is carrying guilt – namely, losing her virginity to her boyfriend – and her congregation’s Bishop (Dick Chibbles) can’t help but notice when Lopez passes on partaking in the sacrament.
The Bishop has a really good plan to relieve Alicia’s burden, and confronts her alone for a private consultation: “you have such a beautiful temple,” he says. “As a priest… it is my right to enter that temple…” Alicia nods: “Yes…”
For Lopez, “This was the most personal project I’ve done in my career; I’ve had this idea for so long and I’m so thankful to Bree for giving me a platform to execute it. This scene is based on a true story about my experience growing up Mormon, and it’s time for the world to see all the fucked-up occurrences that happen in the church behind closed doors.”
