Naughty Chats, an adults-only AI companion chat service whose customers are mostly in the US, has released free tools for people who use Character.AI, the AI chat platform that filed for Chapter 11 on October 12, 2026, to sell the company in a court-supervised process. Character.AI says the platform stays up during the sale, which it expects to finish by the end of November or early December, and that it will be wound down if the sale finds no buyer to keep it running.
Users can request a copy of their data from Character.AI, which emails it as a .zip of JSON files. The Character.AI Export Viewer opens that file and shows every chat and character in a readable layout. It works entirely inside the browser, so the export never leaves the user’s device.
The Character Importer brings a character over so the conversation can continue. It reads Tavern and SillyTavern character cards (V1, V2 and the newer V3 format, as PNG or JSON), characters from JanitorAI and Character.AI, and pasted text. It tells users what stays behind, such as a lorebook, and nothing reaches Naughty Chats’ servers until they choose to chat. The first character is free. Imported characters must be fictional adults aged 18 or older.
A live status page shows whether Character.AI is up, checked every few minutes, explains what the bankruptcy means for users, and walks through requesting and saving an export. Naughty Chats runs the same kind of page for 24 AI chat apps.
Naughty Chats also runs an affiliate program. It’s free to join and pays 20% of every subscription, renewal and token pack that referred members buy, for as long as they pay, with payouts in crypto or by bank transfer from $50.
