The 2020 LAL Expo, held this year in the Colombian city of Cali, came to a close on February 19 with the LAL Expo Awards.
The gala, which included photo ops, pre-event mingling and interviews, cocktails, dinner and entertaining hosts, was held at the Valle del Pacifico Event Center. The space had been transformed from a place of intense learning and seminar instruction to an opulent banquet hall honoring the industry’s best and brightest — and the audiovisual was legit killer.
Understandably, given the nature of the Colombian industry, the awards were heavily focused on webcam and studios — and there are a lot of studios located throughout the country. As such, in addition to an award given for “Best Colombian Cam Studio” overall, awards were allotted honoring the best Colombian cam studios per region and city. These included Antioquia, Cundinamarca, Eje Cafetero, Medellin, Bogotá, Costa and Pereira. I was also pleased to see the inclusion of an award for “Best LGBT Cam Studio.”
There was a selection of awards honoring models and performers, including “Best Female Cam Model,” “Best Male Cam Model,” “Best Latin Cam Model,” “Best Colombian Cam Model,” “Best New Cam Model of The Year,” “Best Cam Model — Private Cam Site,” “Best Cam Model — Tipping Cam Site” and “Best Social Media Star.” I personally would like to see more awards granted to models, who are the names and faces of the space and certainly work in a manner that’s integral overall. Nacho Vidal received an “Honorific Award” — akin to a lifetime achievement award — which felt appropriate and was well-done.
One interesting award that stood out was the award for “Best Training System.” This is an award granted to third-party programs dedicated to training models and advising studios — an interesting corner of the business unique to the Colombian space.
In sum, as I have stated before in previous coverage of the 2020 LAL Expo, there’s so much that is unique about the emerging market of Colombia and the Colombian cam space. LAL Expo’s awards event, down to the unique awards granted, highlights these elements. By paying attention to these seemingly small details, one can learn a lot about what’s going on in Colombia and the ways in which Colombia it connecting with the global adult industry overall.
