Gay Surfers Outpace Straights in Adopting New Mobile Devices

YNOT – Adult content is moving to the mobile sphere in fits and starts, but according to one leased content provider offering material to all segments of the adult entertainment market, surfers seeking gay content seem to have no qualms about employing the latest hot gadgets to get their porn.

At Webmaster Central, only 4.18 percent of all users connecting to the company’s straight content library did so via an iPad during the past 90 days; however, nearly one-quarter of surfers accessing WC’s gay content — 24.47 percent — used an iPad. The percentage represents more than four times the volume of surfers using an iPad to watch straight porn at WC, or 25.9 percent.

“Everyone knows a good mobile marketing strategy for adult content needs to focus on smartphones, but it might come as a surprise to many companies that the iPad is so popular with gay porn consumers,” Webmaster Central President Andy Alvarez said. “I think these numbers prove that anyone who is focusing on the gay market needs to take a long look at tablets.”

Despite Apple’s notorious stance against mobile porn, WC’s statistics indicate Apple devices nonetheless provide the mobile porn access method of choice. Broken down by content orientation and mobile device type, WC’s server stats for the past 90 days indicated surfers seeking straight mobile content are much more likely to use an iPhone (22.41 percent) than any other device. HTC’s EVO and Apple’s iPad came in a distant second and third (6.49 percent and 5.9 percent, respectively), followed by Motorola’s DroidX with 4.69 percent. Surfers seeking gay content were partial to the iPhone, as well, but not by as a large a margin: iPhone accounted for 30.47 percent of gay-content seekers, compared to iPad’s 24.47 percent, iPod Touch’s 6.5 percent and HTC EVO 4G’s 1.62 percent. Motorola’s Droid 2 fell into fifth place on the popularity scale with 1.53 percent of gay content surfers.
