SECAUCUS, NJ — Secaucus, NJ Mayor Dennis Elwell has a point when he wonders, “why anyone would call it Exxxotica New York and do it in New Jersey,” but his opposition to the event has nothing to do with its geographical reference. He and his fellow community members hate the idea of a porn industry tradeshow being held in their town. “The town of Secaucus is a family community,” he insists, “and this is not the type of entertainment we should have.”
According to the Associated Press, the town has gone to Superior Court in order to prevent the nearby Meadowlands Exposition Center from hosting the tradeshow, whose very name offends Elwell.
Scheduled to open its doors this Friday, Exxxotica New York is billed as a three-day erotic entertainment industry convention featuring seminars about sexuality, porn, and running an adult business, as well as a novelty tradeshow floor and stage performances.
Although Victory Tradeshow Management, which booked the event, insists that the 18-and-over convention will not harm the 15,000 citizens of Secaucus, town officials insist that, regardless of whether or not liquor is served, nudity is prohibited in establishments with a liquor license – and, even worse in their opinion, the convention hall is near a preschool.
The Hudson County town council had no idea the convention was coming until a retired police officer spotted an advertisement for it online.
The Star-Ledger reports that Victory Tradeshow Management issued a statement explaining that its attorneys “are in contact with the parties involved to make sure that Exxxotica New York complies with all applicable state and local laws, and any and all measures are being taken to make sure that the event takes place as scheduled. This consumer show is only accessible by those 18 years of age and older, and all exhibits are only visible on the convention floor.”
A press release from the company indicates that Exxxotica Miami, held in April,, “saw over 22,000 fans pack into the Miami Convention Center in South Beach. The debut of Exxxotica New York promises to smash those numbers.”
Scheduled to appear during the three-day event are New York’s Savanna Samson, as well as Jesse Jane, Stormy Daniels, Lexi Love, and other performers, will be available for autographs and photos. A “massive Fantasy Island attraction” featuring more than 20 adult video stars is among the promised entertainment, which includes Joanna Angel’s “Strip for Pain,” the “Pole Dance Champ,” and “S&M, Bondage and Flogging with Sir B.”
Secaucus is located just west of New York, in New Jersey, which inspired Elwell to observe, “I don’t know why anyone would call it Exxxotica New York and do it in New Jersey.”
