ISRAEL — Tsuriel Raphael apparently had a helluva night two weeks ago. Unfortunately, it will likely mean the end of his years as an Israeli ambassador — at least in El Salvador.Raphael was found drunk and naked on the front lawn of his ambassadorial residence, according to Reuters, which cited Israeli media reports.

While it’s uncertain whether these two things alone would have caused the ambassador’s behavior to be called “unbecoming of a diplomat,” the addition of a lawn at least partially scattered with sex toys and the diplomat in question’s kinkily bound and gagged condition probably did not help.

A foreign ministry spokeswoman offered no other information, although she did confirm that Raphael had been recalled to Israel and “the ministry sees his behavior as unbecoming of a diplomat.”

“As soon as the episode was brought to attention of the foreign ministry, it reacted and the ambassador was recalled to Israel,” she explained. “He is going to remain in Israel.”

El Salvador now awaits a new ambassador from Israel. Presumably, one who either has tamer sexual tastes or more refined sense of decorum.
