THE RIGHT REASONS
The right reasons are very simple; you’re a true businessperson, open minded, ready to be professional and to work hard. You realize that this is a job very much like any other, that it will have its ups and downs, and is not all about fucking. You know that although this industry is very large, it is also very small and word of unprofessional behavior and dishonesty travels at the speed of light. You’re ready to market your product/talent in a very saturated marketplace. If you understand all this, then you have chosen based on the correct thinking and have what it takes to get to the top, because only the true businessperson will survive.
THE PERSONAL CONSEQUENCES
Unfortunately for all of us adult industry professionals, this industry is taboo to the mainstream population. Two reactions typically occur when people find out what you do:They think, “Cool. This person just wants to fuck, is easy and brainless.” (This goes for both men and women.)
They think you’re disgusting, lack morals and the ability to be a good person who leads a decent life. They run from you.
Both of these reactions can take a toll on you and those you love.
If you have children then you need to protect them from your business as much as possible. This can really affect your life as people make a quick judgment of you based on what you do, instead of who you are.
It makes forming interpersonal relationships sometimes very difficult. There is an old saying, “Don’t take your work home with you, but make sure there is someone at home who understands your work.” Make certain that your decision to be in this industry is one that your significant other, friends, family, etc., can handle. You must be respectful enough to consider them. The fact that you do consider them shows that you realize the possible impact and negativity that can occur.
LIVING A DOUBLE LIFE
This is simple, if you don’t want scandal then be an open book. Be honest with yourself and others about who you are and what you do. This does not apply to children! You must keep your children away from this business, so if you have kids really consider them before you get started! They can be hurt or ridiculed due to the nature of your living and the way it is viewed in your community.
FAST BUCK NOT WORTH IT
A double life may work for a while, but as we all know the skeletons that we hide in our closets tend to come hopping out at the most inopportune times. Few are successful living two lives, and it takes an emotional toll on you too!
SUPPORT
Get involved with as many “good” people in the industry as you can. Be it from the office, studio, conventions or other websites, having friends who understand the pressures can be emotionally beneficial. For the most part, the big and successful players in this industry are where they are today due to being just all-around good people. Check the reputation of any and all companies you involve yourself with. Seek out the good guys, they generally will welcome you with open arms.
Never be afraid to ask questions; every industry is cutthroat, but the good people in this industry typically are not. They will go out of their way to help you succeed – after all, the smart ones know that there is room in this business for all of us. Sex sells, and three million years of innate instinct is not going to disappear from the population anytime soon. Everyone also has different tastes, so there have to be all different walks of life in adult to cater to that diversity. Have no fear, because if you involve yourself with people whose reputation is upstanding then you will no doubt find your venture worthwhile.
