Two members of the adult industry who have already been recognized for their helpful and supportive efforts have teamed up to launch a new project to benefit their peers: 2021 YNOT Cam Award nominees for Most Helpful Model of 2021, Aerie Saunders, and Sex Worker Advocate of 2021, Robin LeFay, have announced the launch of AdultMutualAid.com, a resource to which sex workers can submit mutual aid requests.
“There is a stark divide and difference in quality of living from performers in the top 1% and everybody else,” said Saunders, who created and manages the platform. “When I have extra income and find myself looking for causes to support, it is always hard to root through social media and find performers that are struggling especially taking into consideration that some performers won’t post about financial hardships in order to maintain their brand. Giving performers a place dedicated to finding support and also allowing them to post anonymously is a step towards a better mutual aid system for the adult industry.”
According to the launch announcement, AdultMutualAid allows performers to “connect directly with causes that they support with no middle-man management of funds, ensuring that donators know they are supporting causes that they support directly and allowing all sex workers to voice their needs without worrying about an approval process.”
“The goal of the project is to become a ‘hub of support’ to connect financially advantaged adult workers with their peers seeking assistance instead of leaving sex workers at the mercy of being seen on social media by helpful members of the industry or by customers willing to assist,” the project added in its announcement.
When mutual aid requests are submitted to the site, those requests first go to a pending queue for spam filtering before being posted to the list of mutual aid requests on-site. The site also welcomes adult customers with extra income to browse the website and find workers to support. Links to preferred payment methods for beneficiaries will be included directly within their request for assistance which allows for streamlined donations.
