YNOT – According to a recent poll conducted by adult products retailer Adam & Eve, operators of AdamEve.com, the good old-fashioned “missionary” position is still the favorite position of Americans.
Adam & Eve used a third-party survey company to conduct the poll, designed to provide the company with important marketing insight into the sexual habits and preferences of its customers. More than 1,000 residents of the United States were included in the survey.
The company announced the following results to the question of favorite sexual position: 32 percent picked the missionary, while “rear-entry” scored second place with 23 percent, followed closely by the “cowgirl” at 22 percent.
The “69” position, “spooning” and “reverse cowgirl” all came in at under 10 percent.
However the survey results did seem to alter somewhat dramatically when the methods and audience were changed. When the company polled its own Facebook following in a non-scientific survey, “rear-entry” dominated with 53 percent, while “missionary” was lagging at just 6 percent.
“It’s interesting that while Adam & Eve customers may be a bit more adventurous when it comes to sexual matters, the average American still seems to prefer face-to-face intimacy,” said Dr. Kat Van Kirk, Adam & Eve’s resident sex expert. “Both of the top choices [missionary and rear entry] allow for more male control while the second choice [cowgirl] puts the woman in control. I believe there’s some give and take there.”
