YNOT – The Indie Erotic Quickies Competition, now in its seventh year of showcasing sexy short films from around the world, has opened for submissions. Organized by San Francisco-based adult products retailer Good Vibrations, the competition welcomes filmmakers to share shorts of any genre or orientation as long as the films run no longer than seven minutes.
Known for its comedic sensibilities, the competition is part of Good Vibrations’ annual Independent Erotic Film Festival, which typically presents a high-quality collection of work that includes a wide variety of tastes and budgets and tends toward the comedic. According to curator and Good Vibrations staff sexologist Carol Queen, entries in both the festival and the competition reflect a more diverse and entertaining sexual range than can be found in mainstream media.
Last year, SF Weekly awarded the festival the title Best Place to see your (Talented and Attractive) Neighbors Naked. The 2011 film crop included neighbors from New Zealand, Mexico, France, Israel, North America and beyond with films like Me or the Porn, Dildo Sport, Burger Time and La Putiza exploring everything from relationship ultimatums to superhero sex.
Though the definition of erotic may be broad, the competition’s time limit of seven minutes is uh, firm, and makes for a quick and frisky romp through the short and varied visions of diverse filmmakers. Whether they prefer funny, serious, explicit, asexual, straight, queer, kinky, romantic, documentary, parody, animation, music video or something else entirely, guests can enjoy a smorgasbord of erotic delights.
“Thirty-five years as the original sex-positive, female- and couples-friendly adult retailer has given us a real appreciation for the diversity of human sexuality, and the Quickies film competition is a fun way to celebrate it with cinema,” said Good Vibrations Independent Erotic Film Festival producer Camilla Lombard. “Creativity, originality and humor come together for an outrageous night that everyone can enjoy.”
Indie Erotic Quickies Competition finalists will be screened at the Castro Theatre on Friday, Oct. 26. The Audience Choice winner will receive a $1,500 cash prize.
