Catching Dating Scammers Before They Strike

YNOT – Dating sites are hunting grounds for scammers. No matter the kind of relationship a dating site user seeks, users must let down a certain amount of their guard in order to interact with potential matches. The very nature of dating — adult or otherwise — makes people vulnerable to social engineering sneak attacks.

That’s why white-label dating provider Dating Factory has buttressed its in-house anti-scam systems with market-leading technology from Scamalytics, a division of mainstream software developer RecSys Ltd.

According to the developers, Scamalytics was made especially for the online dating industry. By employing sophisticated behavior-modeling algorithms, the product identifies scammers by picking up on a number of known suspicious behaviors. Scammers are unable to avoid detection even when they change their modus operandi, because the software’s artificial intelligence engine “learns” and adapts on the fly.

Scamalytics also tracks scammers throughout a de facto network comprising all sites on which it operates, depriving scammers of the opportunity to leave one dating network and ply their trade somewhere else. If a scammer is detected on one dating site, the same scammer will be detected on all participating dating sites. The network includes mainstream dating sites like Cupid Plc, Smooch, FreeDating and IQ Elite.

According to a Scamalytics spokesperson, the product identifies up to 99 percent of scammers.

“Dating Factory shares our passion for defeating scammers,” said Scamalytics co-founder Nick Tsinonis. “Their existing systems are already very advanced. We are confident that Scamalytics will give them that extra edge to virtually eliminate the problem.”

Dating Factory Chief Executive Officer Tanya Fathers explained the advantages Scamalytics will bring to the company’s existing platform.

“We already catch most scammers, but we wanted to ratchet up our existing system to include real-time learning and behavioral analysis,” she said. “The Scamalytics team have years of experience in these areas. We are also keen to collaborate with the rest of the industry to address this issue, and Scamalytics enables us to do that by being an independent third party.

“This deal sends out a strong message that we take end-user security extremely seriously,” added Fathers. “Our partners will benefit from decreased chargebacks due to fraud, and their users will have an even better experience on our platform.”

Dating Factory, established in 2009, is an international white-label dating platform with more than 12,000 partners worldwide. The platform operates in 18 languages and supports 42 niches.
