LAJ: Hey Whitney! Nice to have you here with us this week. Please introduce yourself.
Whitney: Hi, I’m Whitney from Megapornbucks… or the lil’ girl that looks about 12!!!
LAJ: You do look mighty young! How long have you been working at Megapornbucks and what do you do there?
Whitney: I’ve been working for Charlo for the past two years. I first started as the office administrator, way back when the company was called Cartoonbucks. However, that started to bore me and I wanted something a little more for myself. With a lot of hard work and determination, Charlo gave me the opportunity to show everyone what I can offer. I am currently working with the company’s Sales and Marketing department. I find this position a lot more challenging and rewarding. Working with every different department in our company, I feel that I can better understand what we have to offer. With this knowledge, I feel comfortable answering different questions and being able to assist with different aspects of the industry as a whole.
LAJ: Great! Let me put you to the test here then… what does Megapornbucks offer Webmasters?
Whitney: Megapornbucks is a program made suitable for every Webmaster. I believe our program is easy to use. Whether you run a couple of different sites, a TGP, or an affiliate program, we have the tools to help. Megapornbucks has recently launched its hosted galleries, a bannerless freehost site, and no pop-up tours for every single one of our sites. We even have a gallery builder. We offer a lil’ bit of everything as far as our sites go.
LAJ: How do cartoon sites fit into the program?
Whitney: Cartoon sites have always been and will continue to remain the backbone of Megapornbucks. Month after month, our cartoon sites are rated the highest converting by Greenguy and many other resources. When dealing with other companies, I generally push them into this niche’s direction. It’s pretty surprising to see how many surfers like to sniff at the hardcore anime stuff!! 😉 But we have an array of niches to fit any Webmaster’s desire.
LAJ: How do you set yourself apart from your competitors? Any cool examples?
Whitney: I firmly believe our company’s knowledge and reputation within the Cartoon/Hentai niche sets us apart from our competitors. We have an amazing plug-in (http://www.hentaipixxx.com) where we offer our unique streaming cartoon shows: The Dirty Ernie Show and 3Way. Hentaipixxx is also in the process of creating a brand new cartoon series that is soooo funny and soooo dirty!! In addition to all the stuff I have been mentioning, we also feature different games, content, 3D art, comics and jokes.
LAJ: Ah yes, I remember the first time I saw The Dirty Ernie Show a few years back. Very funny stuff.
Can you tell us what life was like for you before you got into the industry two years ago? Please give us some details of your background…
Whitney: I was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba (Canada) and I attended University there. In University, I was going for my Bachelor of Arts degree. I was also taking some nighttime sculpting classes (nude sculpting) at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. So basically, before SMUT ran my life… I wanted to be an artist. With a letter in hand which asked me to join the advanced art program that was being offered at University of Winnipeg, I quickly decided that I needed a change. Without thinking about it, I packed my bags and ran off to Vancouver. Here I am today. Even though I am happy with everything I have accomplished and how I have begun to evolve, I still keep that letter, as a reminder of a path I can always chose!!!
LAJ: Always good to have a “Plan B”! So you hooked up with the people at Megapornbucks upon arriving in Vancouver?
Whitney: I met Charlo Barbosa (the CEO of Megapornbucks) through a really close friend of mine. I was really lucky that he was looking for an administrator. He needed someone to help keep his office running up to par. I have always had confidence in him. I knew that eventually, we would end up working on some really awesome stuff in the business. I just love working with Charlo, and working for Megapornbucks. Not only is Charlo a GREAT boss, he has also become a really good friend. We have a tight friendship in and out of the office. He takes my input very seriously when it comes to industry. I like that feeling of trust. I have never had that in any other position I have had before.
LAJ: Makes such a difference doesn’t it? All of what you just mentioned can make or break a job. Sounds like you are very proud of what you do and where you are. Are your friends jealous? Everyone asking for freebies?
Whitney: When I went home and told my friends that I worked in the “Internet porn industry” I don’t think any of my friends were disappointed. Actually, I would have to say that they loved it. Especially my guy friends!!! I think everyone wanted me to get them some toys but the biggest request had to be for Jenna Jameson’s autograph. Of course there were some people that hated the whole thing, but you can never please everyone. The only person that really mattered to me was my mom. She knew where I worked, and for her, I keep most of the stuff on the down low. The less I tell her, the better. Hehehe! However, I do talk to her about the industry as a whole. She is very supportive of me and isn’t insulted or embarrassed by where I have chosen to make a career.
LAJ: Awesome. What do you do for fun? Are you the outdoorsy type, considering you are from Canada?
Whitney: I enjoy just being outdoors. Vancouver is a beautiful city with many different outdoor activities. I am so lucky I live here. I love going up to my favorite lake, with a few of my close friends and just absorb all the beauty that nature has to offer, like swimming, hiking, fishing and so much more. Of course nothing beats just chilling with a few COLD beers and a BBQ!!! Because my dad was a jockey, I have been raised around animals and horses. So for me hanging out with my cat Mya is the most therapeutic thing.
LAJ: Aside from Charlo, anyone else helpful in getting you to where you are at now?
Whitney: I have to give a lot of credit to Charlo for helping me grow within the industry, as well as my good friends Alan Weeks (Capital Bucks), and Lance Blundell (CJBucks) who have encouraged me and given me the support I needed to make the transition into the traffic side. It can be intimidating at times but they definitely helped me to get where I am and they continue to add to my growth!
LAJ: How do you feel women are treated in this industry?
Whitney: I have mixed feelings. On one side I know it’s hard to be female and be looked upon seriously and not just viewed as content! But on the other hand I think that any female in this industry has the ability and the chance to be taken seriously. We sell sex so in turn I think females will always have stigmas to overcome. But women can alleviate that negative undertone by educating themselves on the industry, network and building up their positions within the community. My only advice for new women to the industry is: educate yourself. Really know what you are talking about! I know a lot of awesome, influential men in this industry and none of them have ever treated me in any negative way because I am a girl.
LAJ: How do you prefer your working atmosphere? Any favorite networking methods?
Whitney: I prefer the smaller conferences compared to the big Internext shows. I like the intimacy of the smaller shows. It allows me to be more personal and take more time with my fellow Webmasters. And it helps to have a good crew in the industry. I have a few other girls that I have made very solid friendships with and we all help each other out.
LAJ: Any comments about the industry, good or bad in general?
Whitney: I think this industry is an amazing place to grow both professionally and personally. Most people help each other out. The relationships are all positive and the atmosphere is laid back. I have created some beautiful friendships and have seen more than most girls have at my age. This is a fast paced industry and I love that about it. Everything is ever-changing… not a day goes by where I feel bored or unmotivated.
LAJ: Got any newbie advice?
Whitney: My only advice to newbies it to really get out there! Network and talk to whoever will listen. Go to the resource boards and the chat boards and make yourself visible!! Most importantly do not be afraid of asking questions. Be confident and believe in your product and you’ll be fine!!
