TAMPA BAY, Fla. – Judging by one content provider’s statistics for the period Jan. 1 through March 31, the online adult industry is embracing casual dating in a big way.
At the end of the first quarter adult dating websites accounted for the majority of Webmaster Central’s new clients, according to Chief Executive Officer Andy Alvarez. The adult dating sector finished slightly ahead of the live-cam market, which also saw a gain, he added.
“We were a little surprised by the results,” Alvarez said. “We expected live cams to win out, and in the end it was really close. The feedback we’re getting is that common sources of adult traffic perform at higher levels with dating and cam sites, so companies are looking for ways to get the best return on their traffic investments.”
Alvarez believes the rapid rise in customers from the online dating industry indicates dating site operators are looking for ways to encourage members to stick around.
“It’s about retention, and it’s about finding more ways to make money,” he said. “Dating sites are looking for ways to add extra value to their sites. Plus, they spend a lot of money on acquiring customers, so it just makes sense to try and keep those customers around for as long as possible. Otherwise it’s like leaving money on the table.”
