Kim Kardashian Superstar screenshotLOS ANGELES – Although Kim Kardashian doesn’t appear in any new scenes, the infamous 2007 sex tape in which she romped with her ex, hip-hop performer Ray J, has become a virtual-reality experience. Vivid Entertainment used the material as a launch pad for its latest endeavor, VividVirtual.com.

Vivid distributed the tape as Kim Kardashian Superstar and appears to be making good use of the footage. The company paid Kardashian $5 million for the rights to what marketing literature calls “the all-time best selling sex tape.”

According to Michael H. Klein, president of broadcasting and internet for Vivid, the Kim Kardashian Superstar VR Experience will enable fans to feel an unprecedented intimate connection with one of the most celebrated pop culture figures of the era.

“The early reactions to the pre-launch version of VividVirtual.com have been fantastic,” Klein said. “VividVirtual.com offers exclusive new adult content shot specifically for VR viewing as well as completely re-imagined ways to enjoy our most popular movies and other content.”

Klein said fans may access the site using Oculus Rift headsets, Samsung Gear VR, Google Cardboard or any other VR equipment they prefer.

3XStudios, founded by award-winning former video game developers at various Activision and Sony game studios, worked with Vivid staff to create Vivid Virtual.

“We knew that Vivid was the ideal brand for us to partner with,” 3XStudios co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Adam Block said. “Their over 30-year legacy of offering the industry’s most award-winning and highly sought-after videos really aligns with our capabilities in the VR space. We share the same passion for producing industry-leading and top-quality content. It’s the perfect match for us.”

Daniel DiLallo, VR director at 3XStudios, predicted the Kim Kardashian Superstar VR Experience will delight fans.

“Just imagine having your favorite star climb out of your TV screen and join you in our immersive new 360-3D world,” he said. “It truly is the ultimate adult fantasy.”

3XStudios describes itself as home to “developer nerds at heart.” Its founders helped create titles including Guitar Hero, DJ Hero, Transformers and Spiderman. The company’ cinematographers and producers have won multiple awards in the gaming and film industries.
