YNOT – Infamous pirate site SiteRipKing.com is no more. Acting on a tip combined with research from colleagues at Porn Guardian, the legal team at gay adult studio Corbin Fisher convinced a judge to take unconventional action and in essence scare the site from the face of the web.
After discovering Site Rip King contained a complete, unauthorized duplicate of CorbinFisher.com, the studio’s legal team filed a federal complaint in Colorado. Because Site Rip King’s ownership had been obscured behind faked information, Corbin Fisher General Counsel Marc J. Randazza and his team were unable to serve the defendant with the lawsuit. So, Randazza also filed a motion for early discovery, a procedure giving the plaintiff the right to take discovery before the defendant is served. The tactic is unconventional, but the judge granted Randazza’s motion because the circumstances of the case were uncommon, too: Corbin Fisher’s petition listed a total of 46 adult websites contained in their entirety within SiteRipKing.com’s pages.
“This is how you expose someone who thinks the internet provides anonymity,” Randazza said. “This case has had a great result so far, but you can’t get there without great evidence. Porn Guardian gave us what we needed.”
Within minutes after the judge issued the early discovery order, SiteRipKing.com left the web, Randazza said.
“The entire industry owes its thanks to Corbin Fisher for leading the charge against Site Rip King and his particularly insidious practice of stripping and publishing entire libraries of content and charging his members to view the work he stole from others,” said Porn Guardian’s Peter Phinney. “All of our content-owner clients are overjoyed.”
Bryan Ockert, a representative of victimized Chaos Men.com, said his company was happy to see someone step in and break up an organization that has plagued adult content owners for quite some time.
“”I’m thrilled to hear that Site Rip King is no longer bleeding the adult community,” Ockert said. “Thank you, Corbin Fisher, for stepping up and taking the lead to bring this guy down. And thank you, Porn Guardian, for showing content owners that working together against the scourge of digital piracy, we can take back control of our content.”
Corbin Fisher Chief Operating Officer Brian Dunlap said his company saw a problem and felt compelled to act.
“We have zero tolerance for piracy of any kind,” he said. “Obviously, something this big was piracy on a huge scale and we had to do something about it.
“While we always ferociously go after infringement of our content, cases like this prove that it benefits everyone in the industry to work together,” Dunlap added. “We are grateful to Porn Guardian for providing the facts and to our legal team for bringing the muscle.”
