LOS ANGELES – Weeks after Russian censors released YouPorn in favor of blocking sister site Brazzers, the newly free porn tube is thumbing its nose at the country’s internet wholesomeness monitor, Roskomnadzor.
YouPorn, the self-described “number one destination for unlimited, high-quality, free [high-definition] porn,” has launched a 360-degree virtual reality platform for hardcore VR clips.
If Roskomnadzor thought YouPorn’s previous content exerted a “deeply negative influence on the human psyche,” just wait until they get an eyeful of the “substantial VR footage” the site has added to its channels, optimized for both Android and iOS devices and playable on most headsets.
“VR is a whole new world, and it’s transforming the way adult sites serve their customers and engage audiences in a completely immersive first-person experience,” said YouPorn Vice President Brad Burns. “YouPorn is committed to providing high-quality content that offers our viewers the opportunity to get up-close and personal with their favorite porn stars.”
Uh-oh. That could spell trouble. According to the The Moscow Times, Roskomnadzor may have banned Brazzers because the site attracted too many Russian visitors, and the number was on the rise. SimilarWeb’s statistics indicated Russian-language searches driving traffic to Brazzers doubled during 2016, and Russian social networking site VKontakte sent more traffic than Twitter.
What if all that “up-close and personal with porn stars” stuff causes YouPorn’s Russian traffic to develop a similar trajectory? Will Roskomnadzor have to release either Brazzers or PornHub (both also owned by MindGeek and on the agency’s block list) in order to re-imprison YouPorn? This could become a hardcore revolving door pretty quickly.
YouPorn appears not to care about the potential danger. In fact, management seems to have adopted a “come and get us” attitude.
“Virtual reality is quickly establishing itself as the inimitable future of adult entertainment, from how we enjoy the POV experience to how we process our erotic impulses,” Burns said. “We at YouPorn are excited to develop our VR section into an enviable online destination throughout 2017.”
