Shay Evans’ Heartfelt Words in New Daily Beast Article on Adult Industry Deaths

VENICE, CA – A recent spate of deaths in the adult industry has attracted national attention and two of those hit particularly close to home for popular new starlet Shay Evans.

The busty stunner known as the Puerto Rican Princess had been roommates with Yuri Beltran, who died in December, a day Shay calls the worst of her life, and her best friend was roommates with Olivia Lua, who died last month. They are two of five performers to die in recent months as the adult industry struggles to come to grips with a series of preventable deaths. Former XXX superstar and now-journalist Aurora Snow covered the situation in a piece published by the Daily Beast over the weekend titled “Why Are So Many Female Porn Stars Turning Up Dead?”

“Evans describes Beltran as a joyful, vibrant personality; one of her closest friends but also a woman who struggled with issues like body dysmorphia, toxic relationships, and depression,” Snow writes. “Evans regrets all the times she’d cancelled dinner plans because she was too tired or didn’t feel like driving in traffic.”

“I was overwhelmed with emotions, thinking of things I’d never hear again—her laugh or how she’d wake me up by singing Beyoncé at the top of her lungs,” Shay told the Daily Beast. “But most of all I was hurt by how the news of her passing came out. She was not a drug addict. She is a beautiful person and we all suffer from depression during some point of our lives.”

These deaths hit Shay particularly hard, which is why she was intent on speaking with Snow even though she had just returned from the Adult Entertainment Expo with no voice and a fever of 101.

“It’s extremely important to me and I hope by talking about these things we can help others who might suffer the same fate,” Shay said. “It’s terrible when someone so young passes and we need to be aware of things and caring and avoid these situations whenever possible. It’s just so painful to so many people who are left behind.”
