TORONTO – Each January, Canadian pleasure products e-tailer Pink Cherry takes the country’s erotic pulse by analyzing sales data from the previous 12 months. Then, like the polite Canadians they are, the staff shares its conclusions about “global warming.”
This year, PinkCherry looked at the 40 largest — in terms of population 18 or older — cities and ranked the metropolitan areas according to sales of sex toys, adult novelties and lingerie per capita. During the period Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2015, Calgary, Regina and Sudbury residents spent the most. Saskatoon came in at a close fourth place. St. John’s was the sexiest city on the East Coast, while Laval and Kingston ranked highest in Quebec and Ontario, respectively.
Products in the lingerie and bondage-and-fetish categories were the most often viewed in 2015. According to statistics for the same period, the top product purchases across Canada included The Original Magic Wand, all lubricants, and Black Furry Hand Cuffs.
When looking at the 10 cities whose residents spent the most during 2016, the province of Alberta, with six on the list, seemed to be a hotspot for pleasure products purchases. The top 10 most fun-loving cities, in order from first to last, were Grande Prairie, AB; Fort McMurray, AB; Waterloo, ON; Dartmouth, NS; Red Deer, AB; Medicine Hat, AB; Sherwood Park, AB; Calgary, AB; Regina, SK.
