Now they can also say that at least some of those things are a little bit safer and a lot more affordable, thanks to “NYC” brand condoms.In addition to providing visitors and inhabitants of Gotham with a hip new way to flag their cultural enthusiasm while keeping pregnancy and disease at bay, they can do it on even the tightest of budgets, since the colorfully packaged condoms will be free of charge.
According to the New York Post, millions of these first-ever city signature condoms will be soon be officially released by New York City Mayor Bloomberg. Safer sex enthusiasts will then be able to select from an assortment of standard, lubricated condoms inside of colored foil packs that represent the city’s famous subway lines.
“The condom packets will be modeled after the New York City subway system,” explains Carol Carozza, a representative for Ansell, the parent firm for LifeStyles condoms and the company producing the prophylactics. “Every foil will have a color.”
In addition to its other famous and infamous claims, New York City is the city hit hardest by HIV/AID, with the disease being the third-leading cause of death for citizens under the age of 65. Only heart disease and cancer lead it in dealing death to the populace. During 2005, AIDS claimed the lives of 1,400 New Yorkers. It is hoped that the availability of NYC condoms will help promote safer sex and bring down the incidence of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.
