MONTREAL – Data from popular adult gaming platform Nutaku.net shows that female gamers tend to be slightly older than their male peers on average, as well as revealing favorite game genres and categories. (The data does not include any figures on gamers who identify as gender neutral.)
According to the data supplied to YNOT, while 46.9% of all Nutaku gamers fall in the 18-24 years old range, among female players the percentage is only 39.7%. The discrepancy is less in the 25-34 range, with 27.8% of Nutaku’s overall users falling in that range, compared to 25.2% of the platform’s female gamers.
Naturally, this means in the older age groups, a higher percentage of women are found than male players. Overall, 12% of the platform’s users are 35-44, a figure that jumps to 15.4% when limited to female players. A similar discrepancy is found in the 45-54 range, with 6.9% of overall users coming from that demographic, compared to 9.9% among women, specifically.
At the top end of the age scale, 6.4% of the site’s users are over 55, while 9.8% of Nutaku’s female players are over 55.
In addition to data on the difference in age range distribution among male and female players on the platform, the data supplied to YNOT also lists “top fetishes/kinks” and “top game genres” broken down along gender lines.
Overall, the most popular kinks on the site are, in order of their popularity, big tits, animated sex, harem, western, fantasy, hentai, anal, romance, gay, big ass, comedy, creampie, voyeurism, threesome and nymphomaniac.
Among female gamers, several of the same kinks are popular with female gamers, but in a different order. Women using the site prefer harem, fantasy, nymphomaniac, animated sex, big tits, big ass, school uniform, threesome and romance.
“Many of these top fetishes among women gamers show that delving into adult games allows for players to embrace their sexuality and experience empowerment through voyeuristic and fantasy-like experiences,” said Sheila Watson, Product Manager at Nutaku. “It’s no secret that sexual promiscuity is still treated as taboo therefore it becomes somewhat thrilling to explore these scenarios as it removes societal restrictions. Adult games allow players to comfortably test the waters with various types of sensual experiences that are risky and novel.”
In terms of specific games, the data shows that female players’ favorites are Harem Heroes, Project QT, Booty Farm, Booty Calls and Fake Lay.
“’Romance’ is another top genre among ‘harem,’ ‘nymphomaniac’ and ‘fantasy,’” noted Watson. “It’s interesting to see that women want to explore that scenario even in a gaming context, where the possibilities are pretty much endless. In this highly connected world we live in, it’s clear that there’s a need for that kind of special connection with someone- and sometimes happen to find what they’re looking for in 2D characters.”
The data also shows a strong preference for mobile gaming among Nutaku’s users, with 78% of players using (non-tablet) mobile devices, 20% using desktop and 2% using tablets.
While the data was collected on a single platform, the sample is quite large – a function of Nutaku’s popularity among adult gamers – and offers affiliates insight into the game genres for which women who use the platform have shown a preference. And while “past performance is no guarantee of future success,” to borrow a phrase from the world of investing, tailoring your marketing of adult games based on this information could improve clickthrough rates and conversions – and even marginal gains in those areas can add up in lucrative ways, over time.
