The 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea are officially over, but holy cow what a time it was.

During the past two weeks, the world has witnessed amazing successes, heart-wrenching defeats and some of the most badass athletics ever. And let’s be real: From Lindsey Vonn and Karen Chen to Joel Fearon and everyone’s favorite topless hottie, Pita Taufatofua, it would be foolish pretend this wasn’t also sexy as hell.

Thank goodness xHamster was there to document all of it.

xHamster recently released their assessment of searches occurring on their site during the 2018 Winter Olympics. They compared these data searches occurring during similar, non-Olympic time periods and reported distinct differences — most notably, according to their assessment, in how users view the sex appeal of various nationalities.

“What country fielded the hottest Olympic athletes?” xHamster asked rhetorically in a recent PR. “We give you the true medalists below!”

Let’s consider:

Hottest Olympic Team: The Netherlands

According to xHamster, the Dutch team inspired the biggest increase in searches during the Olympics. The Netherlands was followed by Korea, then Italy.

Hottest Olympic Villagers: Austria

Austrians, accordig to xHamster, were the “Hottest Olympic Villagers.” Searches for Austria jumped more than 25 times their normal amount within the South Korean Republic. Austria was followed by Switzerland, then the United States. This presumably gets at differences occurring when seeing athletes broadcast in some way (e.g. online, via television, etc) versus seeing athletes in real life.

“Of course, when it comes to Olympic Spirit, we’re all winners,” Xhamster gushed in the same aforementioned PR — because “searches for Olympic-themed porn jumped a whopping 553% during the games.” And THAT is something worth paying attention to.

Though the data reported here seems to be reaching — “Hottest Olympic Villagers”? Okay… — xHamster once again highlight the importance of connecting content, programing, branding, marketing and whatever else to wider social happenings. Be it a long tail plan, something finite and fixed or viral news, people want to see porn/sex about it. So think ahead and supply them with what they want!
