Jacksonville, FL– You (yes, you!) can party with Studs of Steel Male Revue at Myth Nightclub on Wednesday April 11 in Jacksonville, FL.

Apparently, it’s a “watch your fantasies come to life”-type thing.

According to press/bio material, Studs of Steel Live is the first live stage production to bring male entertainment together with the energy of narratives like “Magic Mike,” “Fifty Shades of Grey” and others. Visual story lines, state-of-the-art lighting, sound design, theatrical performances and special effects “captivate the senses and inspire a unique and fun level of fan interaction.”

Further, Studs of Steel Live is “designed with the desires of contemporary women in mind, featuring a talented line-up of stunning studs sure to appeal to a variety of tastes.”

Here’s the thing: “Magic Mike,” which was delightful and surprising in every way possible, came out in 2012. It was followed by the atrocious “Magic Mike XXL” in 2015. Then – as if the book series wasn’t enough — came the trilogy of “Fifty Shades” films – 2015, 2017 and 2018.

Speaking personally, I don’t get the draw of most of this content, but I’m definitely not the target audience either. And after being bludgeoned for years with cheese and inauthenticity, these narratives still appear to be captivating the lady imagination. In fact, as of February 2018, the third “Fifty Shades” film – “Fifty Shades Freed” – had made over $300 million in box offices, pushing the entire franchise to $1.25 billion – billion.

So while a beefcake dance revue/sausage party based, in part, on amateurish ideas and wider Hollywood narratives about BDSM may not interest me, it definitely interests many others — and from a marketing standpoint, this important to remember.

Find ways to tap into popular narratives and try not to privilege your own tastes over consumer demands. Or, do do that – but make sure to consider the different impacts different approaches will have on your bottom line.

During the April 11 event, the Studs of Steel will be performing one show and will be available for photos and lap dances after. I hope they get all the monies.
