INDIA — It’s the stuff of sexual fantasies — but for a 24-year-old Indian businessman, it’s a living nightmare. The unnamed man was born with two penises and he wants one of them gone.Unlike most men born with what is called penile duplication or diphallus, the young man from the northern state of Uttar Pradesh is able to achieve complete functionality with each of his penises — something “unheard of even in medical literature,” according to a surgeon quoted by the Times of India..

The man, whose privacy is being maintained by all involved with his case, checked himself into a New Delhi hospital recently, begging medical staff to help him by removing one of the phalluses, so that he could find a woman to marry and then lead a normal sex life.

In most of the 100 reported cases of penile duplication, one of the organs is rudimentary. Unfortunately, the fact that both of the patient’s penises are perfectly healthy and functional, makes the surgery before him trickier since ensuring a full blood supply to the remaining phallus will be more difficult.

One in 5.5 million men across the globe are born with diphallus, which results from the mesodermal bands in the embryo not fusing properly. These bands are one of three basic layers of the embryo which form several major body parts.
