YNOT – The first in what is expected to be a series of books promises to reveal the inner workings of the adult entertainment industry from an insider’s perspective. According to advance promotional materials, Darren Roberts’ The Unsexpected Story will hit ebook and print shelves later this fall.

Self-published but professionally packaged and represented, Roberts’ debut work of non-fiction “delivers unique insight into the minds of the industry executives, stars, marketers and technology mavens who are responsible for the creation and management of the most successful and enduring brands in adult entertainment,” according to pre-release materials.

Roberts served as the chief executive officer for AVN Media Network from 1996 through 2011. Together, he and founder Paul Fishbein transformed an industry trade magazine into a publishing and trade event empire that garnered mainstream admiration and emulation. Both men exited the company last year.

As someone who routinely hobnobbed with the glitterati of the adult industry, Roberts enjoyed unprecedented access to the key professionals behind one of the world’s largest and most profitable trades. The Unsexpected Story incorporates interviews with many high-profile adult industry icons, some of whom are notoriously reclusive.

Though the book does not shy from some of the internal controversies witnessed by industry insiders during recent years, The Unsexpected Story is more business manual than gossip rag. Readers may expect to find within its pages a few secrets to the methods and attitudes that gave rise to an industry that endures despite social, legal and economic assault.
