YNOT – Since her adult industry debut in 1997, Inari Vachs has made a career of blowing people’s minds … and other body parts. In 2000, AVN rewarded her with its coveted Female Performer of the Year Award after dubbing her “the inventor of the sloppy blowjob.”

More than 380 adult movies and an eight-year hiatus later, Vachs returned to pornography’s A-list in 2010, delivering the goods in skinworXXX’s Harder as though she’d never left. Today she’s more determined than ever to leave an indelible mark on the industry that made her a star.

And she doesn’t plan to stop there: Also in the works under her watchful eye is an as-yet-unnamed graphic novel featuring a character based on her and her life.

She took some time out from a busy convention and webcam schedule to talk with YNOT.com about her personal whirlwind.

YNOT: You’ve certainly had an interesting career in adult entertainment. How did it all start?
Inari Vachs: In short, when I moved to California, I had an opportunity to try the adult industry. It was something I’d always said I’d do once, just for the fun of it. I’d been fan of porn for a long time and I was intrigued, so I did [a scene] and I was quite surprised. It turned into a bit of a social experiment for me, and I learned quickly how much of an exhibitionist I really am.

Having a business background, I recognized adult as a wonderful business opportunity for a woman, and I pursued it to learn more about the industry and myself.

People have said you’ve made a remarkable comeback. Will you share a bit about where you are now versus where you were “then?”
It’s hard for me to gauge, because I’ve got a little bit of a learning curve not to my favor regarding how the business has changed. I need to understand how the changes are affecting how I do my business, because it’s different even though it’s “on the same map”: The same formulas are in play but it’s a different market.

As a performer, I’m bringing back what I was known for, which is really being into what I’m doing. My initial comeback was a huge feature: five amazing scenes in Harder for skinworXXX. That was the perfect project, because I did a little bit of everything: some girl-girl, BJs, interracial, anal, DP … a wonderful progression with old and new performers. I was really happy with it. It’s beautiful, it was shot very well and it was a fun project to work on with a great cast.

I’ve been working a lot: Evil Angel’s The Mommy X-perience 4, Official Vagina Monologues Parody and Official To Catch A Predator Parody 2 for Zero Tolerance and Third Degree, Seasoned Players 15 with Tom Byron, Voyeur Media’s There’s No Place Like Mom 2…. I’ve worked with old friends like Jonny Darkko and Joey Silvera and new directors like Nica Noelle. I just finished working on 6 1/2 Weeks, Nica’s latest feature for Sweet Sinner & Mile High. It’s a parody of 9 1/2 Weeks, which will be released in a couple of weeks.

Have the performers changed?
A lot more people are in adult and using this work as a business vehicle, as opposed to really having a passion for it. I’ve noticed that not a lot of new people “get it,” the responsibility we hold as sexual performers — as public figures — to teach the message about open, positive sexuality. Most new talent also seems totally unaware of the history and culture of the industry. They don’t know the background and the fight we all had to get where the business is today. I feel as if I’m one of the few of my generation that continue to take it upon ourselves to continue to spread the positive image and respect the cornerstones and the foundation of what kept the intellectuality and the positive ontology of pornography.

A comic book is a very unique and interesting twist for an adult entertainer. How did this all come about, and what can we expect from the comic when it’s released?
I love it! There have been a few [graphic novels featuring adult entertainers], but this one’s going to be a little bit different. I’ve known these people for at least 10 years, and this is a project-in-the-making that’s been on the back burner for a while, but now it’s going to be even better. We have a stronger avenue to sell it and this will be the first one that will actually be a partnership with the adult star — me!

I am also taking big hand in writing the story. The people I’m working with are strictly artists coming from the comic industry, and they’re renowned for the old-school adult comics. Part of [our project] will be my biography, but there’s a fantasy portion as well as a small comedic segment.

I don’t want to give too much away, but [the finished product is] going to be good, and it’s possible we’ll have more than one.

It’s no secret that the internet has changed pretty much everything, especially for the adult industry. Care to speculate on where all this might go in the next few years?
It’s just going to continue to grow and continue to get more high-tech, and I just hope we’re able to fight the piracy a little bit faster and a little bit stronger. [Content piracy is] a huge challenge, and it’s having a very negative effect on the positive growth of our industry — actually of more than just adult. It’s really hitting the music industry and mainstream Hollywood hard, too. The quality of product will lessen and decrease as long as piracy continues, so we really need to speak out and encourage people to just have the common decency not to [steal].

What do you have planned for the future?
Right now I’m having fun re-inventing and re-introducing my career and the celebrity I worked so hard to build. There are so many avenues within the entertainment industry that I wish to involve in my business, including production, which I will probably initiate through my website xxxInari.com. My company, in general, is IV Entertainment — it’s my giant umbrella for all the projects I want to do. I labeled it an “entertainment company,” because there are so many ways that I can entertain.

I will have InariVachs.com linked to all of my ventures. That site currently is being built as an informational area where you can find out all about me before going to my hardcore or other areas. Follow me on Twitter @realInariVachs to get all the latest news!
