YNOT – Following its successful month-long run of Command Cinema’s much-decorated Scoundrels earlier this summer, Hotmovies.com again is working with adult filmmaking legend Cecil Howard to bring Star Angel, one of the final masterpieces of adult 35mm film, back to viewers for a similar limited engagement.As he did with 1983’s Scoundrels, Howard agreed to re-release 1986’s Star Angel, for which he won AVN’s coveted Best Director award, to HotMovies’ viewers for one-month only, with no DVD release or further distribution planned. It can be seen on HotMovies.com starting Tuesday.

“It’s a superior follow-up event,” said HotMovies Director of Business Development James Cybert. “Many, many people have longed to review or see for the first time Howard’s amazing films from the golden age of porn. We are truly lucky to work with him in this capacity and to bring these amazing movies – the likes of which have not been seen since – back for another run in the spotlight.”

Star Angel follows the life and sexual escapades of music manager Luke Frame (Jerry Butler in a deeply haunted performance) as he first loves, then kills, rising star of song Lola Rain (Chelsea Manchester, aka “Tigr”). Following her death, he spends the rest of his life attempting to overcome his own psychic wounds, resulting in a lot of steamy sex, if not redemption.

Steeped in the psychological melodrama common to the work of Howard and screenwriter Anne Randall, the movie provides a vehicle for several indelible performances, including one of the best and last for adult screen legend Colleen Brennan. In between, HotMovies spokesman and walking porn billboard Ron Jeremy provides comic relief as Luke’s chauffer, Mario.

“I’m so proud of this movie,” said Howard. “I made it at a time when video was really starting to take over. That didn’t stop us from putting our all into it, from doing it the right way even as so many people were starting to do things on the cheap. It’s really the last of its kind, and I think it turned out tremendous.”

Howard distributes exclusively through HotMovies.com. The site is the only place to see a special selection of the acclaimed director-producer’s other award-winning efforts, headlined by Babylon Pink and Neon Nights. HotMovies plans to work with Howard to bring even more of his classics to the small screen. Other movies from Howard yet to see the light of day on DVD and on-demand include Firestorm, Snake Eyes, Foxtrot and Platinum Paradise.
