CHATSWORTH, Calif. – Farrah Abraham, star of MTV’s Teen Mom, scandalized more than a few people when Vivid released a sex tape starring her and James Deen. The million dollars Vivid reportedly paid was justified by the millions of downloads the video reportedly scored and a degree of media buzz not seen since the Golden Days of Porn.
Adult toy manufacturer Topco Sales, known for its lifelike products cast from the body parts of adult stars, knows a good things when it sees one. The company wasted no time in partnering with Abraham to create a signature line of toys and accessories. YNOT.com spoke to Lynda Mort, Topco’s director of sales and marketing, for a behind-the-scenes look at the venture.
YNOT: What products will Topco be offering in the Farrah Abraham line?
Lynda Mort: January 2014 will see the release of three molded replica items crafted directly from MTV Teen Mom’s Farrah Abraham. Shortly thereafter, Topco Sales will launch a line of products specifically designed for and by Farrah according to her wishes and desires. She will have a direct hand in the development and creation of her toy line, ensuring her fans are completely satisfied with the offerings.
How did the deal come about?
This summer, Farrah approached us about the possibility of doing a toy line. After the success of her Vivid video, it made perfect sense to give the millions of viewers who enjoyed her on screen the golden opportunity to take Farrah — or at least a part of her — home with them.
Farrah came into the office with a ton of ideas and was ready to get to work. It was great having her there. She is a tenacious go-getter who really knows what her fans want, and she is utterly eager to give it to them. And besides all that, she’s a pleasure to work with.
How willing was she to do the necessary work?
Farrah was ready, willing, and able. We had a super-tight schedule to work around to get it all done. Farrah came in on a red-eye flight. She then had a marketing photo shoot, packaging photo shoot and molding session. What is typically a two- to three-day workload was done in just under seven hours. Talk about a trooper!
What is involved in the molding process?
The molding process can be quite arduous. It takes about two hours, and it requires the model to remain completely still and hold that exact position for at least 10-15 minutes at a time. This can be uncomfortable at times, but Farrah did an amazing job and looked beautiful the entire time.
The whole molding process can be quite overwhelming, given the fact that there are so many people in the room, hot lights glaring down, and all sorts of activity going on in the studio. But Farrah was her typical bubbly self throughout the entire process, showing just how a true professional gets things done: with style and grace.
Given Abraham’s celebrity status, how much demand do you think there will be for her products?
Given the fact that the internet was ablaze with the story within minutes of its initial release, we believe this line of items will be in high demand. In just the past week we have been inundated with requests for more info about the line. And take a look again at the staggering amount of downloads and purchases her Vivid video shoot has generated. Clearly people want to see more of Farrah.
Our past experience shows [that] when customers are this heated for a product this far before its expected release, you can bet they will be absolutely salivating for her line of products by the time the release comes around.
Do you have any other celebs lined up for similar projects?
Wouldn’t you like to know? [She laughs.] But seriously, our main focus for the near future is solely on Farrah and her line.
