VAN NUYS, CA – Digital Playground and Adam & Eve’s joint production Pirates, an extraordinarily large-budget film by adult industry standards, ran away with the show at the 2006 Adult Video News Award Show in Las Vegas last week, taking home more trophies than any other single production in the 23-year history of the AVN Awards.Directed by Digital Playground’s Joone, Pirates captured 11 awards at the show, including Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Director, Best DVD, Best Video Feature, Best High-Definition Production, Best Special Effects, Best Music, Best All-Girl Sex Scene and Best On-Line Marketing Campaign.
Joone was obviously very pleased to see his project take home so much hardware, and sought to spread the credit around a bit. “I’d like to thank AVN and every organization who has honored this movie,” he said. “A project like Pirates requires the help of some very extraordinary people. I dedicate all of these awards to my cast, crew and my partner Samantha.”
“In a year with a record number of big budget adult releases, Digital Playground is extremely pleased that the cast and crew of Pirates were on stage accepting awards throughout the night,” Digital Playground stated in a press release.
Accepting the award for Best High Definition production, Robby D. said, “(I)t is an honor to work with Joone and Digital Playground and to push a new format to the market.” Contract Star Janine accepted two awards, thanking AVN, Digital Playground and heaping high praise on director Joone for his vision and relentless attention to develop her character.
The host of this years’ show was Digital Playground’s own Jesse Jane, who was honored for her girl-girl scene with Janine. Jane also credited Joone for “building the sexual chemistry and tension.”
Digital Playground President Samantha Lewis summed up the company’s gratitude for all the recognition. In accepting the evening’s final award, Best Video Feature, Lewis said, “I’d like to thank AVN for acknowledging Pirates in so many categories, our incredible partners Adam & Eve, my partner Joone for his amazing visionary artistry, all of our talented staff and the most beautiful and talented contract stars our industry has ever seen.”
