The move comes in the wake of continued pressure on the part of banks and credit card processing companies to impose their will on the adult industry by forcing some distribution platforms to either alter, censor or outright remove content created by multiple creators and producers in order to continue to be able to accept payment.
“Some of my work has definitely been censored,” says DCM Predident and chief content creator David Harris. “I’ve had video descriptions altered, and in some cases, I’ve had videos outright banned from platforms.”
Harris, a staunch freedom of speech advocate, sees cryptocurrency as a way for not only the adult industry, but creative and non-creative businesses alike, to unplug from the mainstream banking system that has taken over e-commerce.
“You hear about it all the time in adult,” says Harris Models are having their Paypal accounts terminated, and platforms are having their merchant accounts terminated because we’re considered a “high risk” industry. I don’t blame distribution platforms for giving in to the banks. They have to do what they have to do to stay in business. But, I truly believe that adopting cryptocurrency is the way forward for this business. It puts payment processing back in our hands, and eliminates the banks from the equation.”
Currently, Dave’s Custom Media is accepting major currencies such as Bitcoin (BTC<) Ethereum (ETH) Litecoin (LTC) as well as two smaller alt coins, Steem (STEEM) and Hive (HIVE).
“Steem and Hive are interesting to me because those altcoins are the backbone of a blogosphere that actually pays you in crypto for your content,” says Harris.
