YNOT – AVN, the trade journal of the adult entertainment industry, on Wednesday announced the nominees for “best of the best” films, stars and websites in porn. Winners will be revealed Jan. 9, 2010, during the 27th AVN Awards extravaganza, to be hosted by Kayden Kross and Kirsten Price in the Pearl Theater at The Palms Resort Casino in Las Vegas.Among the 125 categories in which the trophies for 2010 will be presented are Best Video Feature, Best Parody, Female Performer of the Year, Best Adult Website and Best Sex Scene. Several titles were nominated in more than one category: 2040, Nurses, The 8th Day, Throat: A Cautionary Tale, Pure, Tori Black is Pretty Filthy, Flight Attendants, The Sex Files: A Dark XXX Parody, Ass Worship 11, Teachers and many others earned that distinction. Performers including Sasha Grey, Manuel Ferrara, Jenna Haze and Tori Black also received multiple nominations.

As happens every year, nominations resulted from a painstaking, time-consuming process during which AVN editors reviewed a veritable warehouse full of adult products submitted by content producers. To be eligible, materials must have been released between Oct. 1, 2008, and Sept. 30, 2009.
“We counted 6,897 actual new releases, from a total of 13,056 titles put out on DVD (including comps, amateurs and re-releases) this year,” said Paul Fishbein, president of AVN Media Network. “So we dealt simply with what we reviewed during the year, what producers submitted and what our staff and freelancers saw during the year…probably 5,000 of those releases.”
According to AVN Executive Editor Dan Miller, “We had a tough time even getting down to 15 in any particular category. Numbers 16-30 in any category were often as strong as the top choices. There was that much good product this year.”
Added Associate Editor Peter Warren, “This was the toughest year ever with more beautiful girls, great websites, big marketing campaigns and huge movies to choose from. These nominations should be considered awards themselves since there was so much competition.”
Often called “the Oscars of Porn,” the AVN Awards Show takes place as part of the annual AVN Adult Entertainment Expo, which for one weekend each year adds an extra dimension to Las Vegas’ nickname “Sin City.” Scheduled to occur Jan. 7-10, 2010, in the Sands Expo Center at the Venetian Hotel & Casino, AEE attracts adult and mainstream celebrities and tens of thousands of curious fans during its run.
