Adult Video Usage to Skyrocket by End of 2015

DigitalRevenueGrowthHAMPSHIRE, England – Viewers will watch more than 136 billion adult videos during 2015, far exceeding previous expectations, according to analysts at Juniper Research. On a global scale, each smartphone user of adult content is expected to watch an average of 348 videos this year.

Overall, video views are forecast to grow by almost 55 percent by 2020, representing 193 billion adult videos worldwide. While there will be a marked increase in usage levels in developing markets, net growth will be greatest in the U.S. Other mature markets, such as Western Europe, will see a more modest increase.
In developing regions, service uptake will be rapid, driven by increasing availability of 4G and WiFi, as well as increases in smartphone and tablet ownership.

Juniper’s latest research, “Digital Adult Content: Market Trends, Forecasts & Revenue Opportunities 2015-2020,” suggests revenue growth will be steady rather than spectacular over the next five years, but specific niches such as videochat and webcam offerings will outperform the overall sector.

Analysts observed that such services usually are monetised on a subscription basis rather than as pay per view offerings. According to the research, a significant proportion of users prefer to revisit the same hostess, providing a rationale for the trend. However, analysts noted, they expect subscription revenues to decline by 2020 due to the continued prevalence and accessibility of free content.
