Adult Site Broker Talk has announced that this week’s guest is author Oliver Carter, a Reader in Creative Economies at the Birmingham Centre for Media and Cultural Research at Birmingham City University.
Carter is interested in how technology can create opportunities for enterprise and the regulation of media. He wrote the book: Under the Counter: Britain’s Trade in Hardcore Pornographic 8mm Films. Published in 2023, he is currently working on a second volume.

Carter’s research into Britain’s pornography business influenced the award-winning documentary series Sexposed – a show that featured “different aspects of the British sex culture” and what it’s like to work in their porn industry. His work also inspired the second episode of the 2021 BBC doc series Bent Coppers: Crossing the Line of Duty – “which dives into the sleazy underbelly of London’s Soho in the early 1970s, where an explosion of dirty pornographic bookshops provides an open invitation for corrupt cops to be greedy.”
