YNOT – After two months in beta-testing, a new adult-industry-specific alternative to microblogging network Twitter has launched.Darteros exited beta mode on the say-so of some 2,000 users who registered for free accounts based on word-of-mouth promotion. The Web 2.0 social network uses open-source technology with the goal of aggregating adult-entertainment workers and consumers and offering ancillary benefits for both, according to the developers.
“Darteros has been designed for connecting people interested in adult matters of a sexual nature, but it is not just another adult social network,” Director of Operations Fabio Salvadori. “Its Ostatus protocol makes distributed social networking possible, granting users the right to manage their online presence and to follow each other on different social networks. Adult entertainers, webmasters, affiliates, fans and any other category of sex enthusiasts can now connect and interact with wider audiences without the need and the hassle of creating multiple accounts and profiles, posting duplicate status updates or switching from one network to another for checking and replying to their friends’ messages.”
With a user interface translated into 36 languages, Darteros.com will remain free for the foreseeable future, Salvadori said. That doesn’t mean the service lacks “bonus features” fans of adult entertainment have come to expect.
“All registered users will be offered new free and exclusive events and goodies on a weekly basis: adult stars’ memorabilia and collectibles, live webcam performances, adult website passes and much more,” he said.
Darteros’ developers also went to great lengths to build in features and services they thought users would find useful. Around-the-clock spam control and etiquette moderation “make Darteros a safe and friendly place for any 18-plus users and groups of any gender, transgender, race and sexual orientation who want to connect with other users who share similar interests, or with their favourite adult stars,” Salvadori noted.
For adult performers, Darteros represents an opportunity to widen fan bases in a targeted, spam-free community without neglecting their followers on other social networks.
