YNOT – After exposing his miserable failure as a celebrity sex tape filmmaker, Hollywood actor and heartthrob James Franco revealed he’s planning to film a documentary about fetish studio Kink.com.
Franco made the revelations on Monday during Conan O’Brien’s late-night talk show. Making good porn, he indicated, is harder than it looks.
“I got a video camera and my girlfriend and I decided to film ourselves,” Franco told O’Brien. “We watched it back and said, ‘yeah, well, let’s never watch that again.’
“Those people in pornos, they are great performers,” he continued. “They’re not just doing it — they’re selling it to an audience.”
Being an indefatigable student of his craft, Franco decided he needed to know more about the adult entertainment industry. Though he didn’t say how he became aware of Kink.com, he did tell O’Brien he’s fascinated by the fetish studio’s operation.
“I’m making a documentary about pornography,” Franco told O’Brien. “There’s this amazing facility in San Francisco. It’s at this old armory and they do everything in house; they build their props in house, so I’m making a documentary about that. It’s an incredible place.”
Kink.com spokeswoman Alison Voss confirmed the project to The Huffington Post.
“Kink is very excited about the project,” she told HuffPo. “The details are still being ironed out, but we’re really looking forward to it. Our mission is to demystify sexuality and fetish; we’re very transparent about our practices, policies and commitment to ethical production…. James Franco obviously has a huge reach, and we believe the more people that see this, the more people will open their minds to sexual minorities.”
Franco may have been inspired by Kink.com’s operation while shooting the upcoming movie Cherry. Based on a true story and co-written by adult performer Lorelei Lee, the mainstream feature film was lensed in San Francisco in May. Franco headlines as a cocaine-addicted lawyer who becomes obsessed with a naïve young porn starlet. Heather Graham and Dev Patel also star.
