From The Trenches: The Trouble with Rough Sex Porn
by Dave Cummings
What’s up with the choking, slapping, spitting, and rough sex in some porn releases? And, those oral sex gaggings! What’s sensuous about it? What’s sexy about it? What message might some viewers, especially guys, possibly and wrongly assume from seeing such aberrations in adult films and mistakenly rationalize it as normal or okay, and later try to copycat it in their own sexual relationships?
Now I admit that I’ve heard lots of women on sets and in the swinging world comment about the joy and pleasure they get from being “taken”, or “dominated,” or made to “subordinate” themselves to the pleasures of their guy. I respect their choices and their right to participate in such sexual practices, but I sometimes wonder if perhaps some of these ladies think (or were pushed to think?) that they truly enjoy handing over sexual control. Unfortunately, some of them might possibly suffer from low self-esteem or some other disorder, or simple persistence from a husband or boyfriend who’s seen such acts in some adult films. I think such women in society are in an extremely low percentage relative to those females who might want just a good hard pounding during sex, or a good old-fashion sweat filled sex-fun time – or, women who want sex and love-making to be intermingled within their intimate and behind-closed-doors sessions with their mate.
I’m worried, though, that the companies highlighting such “rough” behaviors see enough patronage sales that they will continue putting out such content, possibly “raising” new viewers to expect their future sexual partners to welcome the fantasy depicted on film. Male teens growing into manhood and viewing such acts possibly don’t easily realize that what they view on their screens are actors/actresses and consenting adults “acting” and depicting fantasy, not normal reality. I hope such releases aren’t inviting, indeed pushing, future government intervention into our First Amendment rights. And, I certainly hope we don’t have a terrible accident someday on a set and end up with a choking “act” mistakenly ending in an injury or death. If I personally could wave a magic wand, it would be for all adult video producers to cease depicting the aforementioned. As a viewer, I want to see sexy couplings that sexually turn me on, not unrealistic physical acts of an almost-violent nature that disgust me – as they probably do many other viewers and potential customers.
What I opined above has been on my mind for a long time. I’ve anguished over it, and I hope that things significantly improve. What’s been released in the past hasn’t been unlawful, but I also worry that some of it hasn’t been very responsible either, or good counsel for some impressionable viewers. I think our right to Free Speech also encompasses a responsibility on our part to foster good, respectful, and proper behaviors. I just feel that it’s wrong to portray sexually aberrant depictions as anything but abnormal fantasy – NOT reality.
Speaking of our right to make and view adult films, the recent Free Speech Coalition’s annual lobbying seminar and appointments with legislators and staff personnel at the California Legislature in Sacramento was another resounding success. The Free Speech Coalition officials are super-smart folks, dedicated to head off potential problems before they become law. The four industry folks on my team, including actress Inari Vachs, found that we were truly welcome in the legislator’s offices, not just tolerated. Heck, it seems that even government people have the natural, normal and healthy sexual needs that the citizenry has. Along with a plethora of industry personnel, the other actresses on teams addressing issues with legislators included Nina Hartley, Stormy, Sunny Leone, and Brittany Andrews.
Lots of shoots this past month! I especially enjoyed Wildlife’s “Screw My Wife, Please, Vol 48” in which I got oral sex from each and every wife in the film. Yup, I’m a pervert! I’m hearing that “Vol 50,” which will be filmed the month after next, will be especially sex-filled and special. I think getting to 50 volumes is quite an accomplishment, and a special salute to Director Bobby Rinaldi; I look forward to working towards 100 volumes of it!
I’ve got some personal thoughts about the changed and constantly changing “community standards” in America, something that I feel favorably impacts upon the rights of adults in America to view porn. But, it’ll have to wait until next month’s column. Until then, celebrate the American Constitution and our Free Speech rights.
I wish a super-nice summer for everyone, one filled with happiness, good health, and great sex!

Excellent article Dave! Couldn't agree more.
Like you, what I see is not seem so much conventional BSDM as much as it just demonstrates what you can get a model to subject herself to if you pay her enough.
Thanks for having the balls to speak up on this subject.
Re: From The Trenches: The Trouble with Rough Sex Porn
Funny, this reminds me of the last show in Vegas when Tera Patrick walked past our booth, saw our promo footage from Hogtied.com playing, curled up her nose and said "that's disgusting" and walked off. Just goes to show you how our business will always be at risk of being judged and targeted by people that think they can judge and tell the rest what is right and what is wrong.
What's the difference between you, Dave Cummings, pulling your wrinkly dick out and ejaculating on some 18 year old's face, and couples having sex in a way you wouldn't enjoy? Do you seriously think you are in a position to pass this sort of judgement?
I'm always amazed when I come accross people in our industry, people that you would automatically assume are open-minded, turn out to be quite the opposite.

You may not know me I don’t post much – that’s Madame’s job. But I do read the boards and keep abreast of what’s going on. Even though I don't have time to reply to threads, I feel an obligation to reply to this one.
It looks to me that Mister Cummings is either a Master of manipulation or the most Sadistic bastard on the planet. Here is a plaintiff, a man who is putting his ass on the line for all of us – but who calls my way of life “sexually aberrant” and “anything but abnormal fantasy”.
I agree that many “BDSM” sites are Way over the top, but that can be said about any category of porn today. Gang bangs – beaver bongs – cream pies, there are extremes in all kinds of porn. Comparing the BDSM lifestyle, as depicted by most extreme adult porn sites, is like holding up a Hollywood action film to the reality of physics.
The movie, True Lies is a good example because I know for a fact a fucking Harrier could no more perform those hovering stunts – then I could! And just like porn stars that use yogurt as a prop in cream pie shots, producers of BDSM will always use their skills at deception to make it all seem way more extreme- than the reality of
“what it is we do”.
In my world, being a submissive can also mean I'm going to take it up the ass for no good reason. So if my chosen lifestyle has to be the scapegoat in the fight for our industry as a whole – then bend me over.
Because if they don’t win – everyone will be the bitch!
Even old self-proclaimed perverts who get paid for shooting hot cum on pretty faces.
Re: From The Trenches: The Trouble with Rough Sex Porn
Yes Mr Cummings, it is time that you start having one man and one woman that are married in your films. Make sure that they only have missionary sex when they are activly trying to produce a child. What concerns me is that soon you'll be testifying in front of a Senate Committee on the evils of rough sex. Oh well, you had your fun and made your money so screw everyone else.
You talk about 18 year old men and woman,"Male teens growing into manhood and viewing such acts possibly don’t easily realize that what they view on their screens are actors/actresses and consenting adults “acting” and depicting fantasy, not normal reality." Give me A Break. At what age do they have a brain these days? News Flash: Through out history men and woman have played these "rough sex" scenes out in their minds and will continue to do so. Everything that is portrayed is a reallity to someone. In fact, I am still waiting to see some producer make a film that reenacts the daydreams I had in my head when I was 9 years old.
What you should do for full disclosure though is have that opening scene in your movies where you and the other men are downing the Viagra and everyone is having a good snort on the poppers bottle. Seems to be a natural way to increase revenues with some cross marketing.
I know your article was on rough sex but I can only imagine your attitude on the whole man in man scene ... which reminds me.
Re: From The Trenches: The Trouble with Rough Sex Porn
Though I'm in agreement with much of what Dave has said... it begs the universal question of who are we to judge, especially considering the fact that I love this free country.
Giving way to the rights of others (even those who I highly disagree with) is something I regard more-so than the principles of those who I might've disagreed with in the 1st place.
Dave raises many interesting points in areas that will perhaps always be gray... at least in America.
