Affiliates want TAXID or SSN |
 |
 |
I was looking over MaxCash, thinking I'd sign up with an affiliate just to get my feet wet. They're asking for a TAXID or SSN in their sign up form. This makes me nervous. Is this standard, and if so, why is the sign up form NOT SSL enabled?

I can't answer that for adult affiliates, however, in regards to regular (non-adult) affiliates that is standard. See, when they pay you that becomes part of their outgoing cash flow. That's listed when they file taxes for their business.
If Adam's Porn Site claims to have paid out $10,000 total in affiliate payments then the U.S. Government wants to make sure that $10,000 was actually paid out instead of a company just "claiming" the revenue loss of $10,000.
If they government ever audits the business they have proof that say $100 of it when to John Smith with the SSN of 123-45-6789. The government can then look at their records and see that there really does exist a person named John Smith with the SSN of 123-45-6789.

Sure, it makes total sense why they would ask for it. If you're selling as a partner affiliate, you're essentially a subcontractor and they have to keep tax records showing what they pay to you. It's just nerve racking giving your SSN to someone you don't know.
Does anyone have suggestions for 2 or 3 reputable affiliates to sign up with, ones they've had a good experience with and feel are upfront and honest? Suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!

First, let's get some terminology straightened out. You are the affiliate, you'll be signing up with sponsors.
Second, find a few sponsors who's sites you think you could promote, then do a search on a number of adult webmaster boards for them. See what other people are saying. Have there been payment problems, do conversions suck, has there been other drama. No news is good news. If you don't find much, and they're not new, then they're probably pretty reputable.

Thanks for that clarification, Toby, and for the suggestion!

MaxCash has been around forever and are very legit. Definitely do research on programs that you join. There are plenty out there that I see in people's sigs in some of the 3-letter acronym boards out there and no ads or anything anywhere else. These are the ones you should be more concerned with regarding reputation.
