Oh man .. which one?

This one is an x86 AMD 2Ghz running WinXP. It's the one I do most of my work/play on.

Then I have the laptop which also runs XP and has one of those 1.4Ghz low power consumption processors in it.

My mail server is a converted HP 2.4Ghz windows box. It now has a Netgear NIC and a 24/52/24 CDRW and runs Ubuntu 9 desktop edition.

My web server is a pair of P4 3Ghz racks that run Ubuntu 8 server edition.

My back up and storage server is an old converted pentium 500 from IBM that runs NT4.

Then there is that pile over there which all work great but don't have an actual use yet or anymore. I still have a Win98 box set up so I can play the older games that don't run under XP and Vista.

And yes I still have an IBM model 8088 processor that's still working since it's creation back in 1979. No it does not have the $3,000 4 MB hard drive option. It boots from duel 5.25 boot disks and 64k of RAM. No color. I don't know why I keep it.

Also don't look in my storage unit unless you really want to go back through time. I think I have at least one of everything in there. 286/386/486 and even a Pentium Pro in there.

I use both a Mac (laptop) and a PC (desktop). I've been very happy with HP products, in fact getting ready to buy a new one, hopefully as soon as tomorrow. HP has never failed me, I have treated it very well over the years, pampered it and it has in turn showed me love.

Macbook is tough, wouldn't use a PC for a laptop and the Mac is a real bear. I'm very fond of my Mac and with it I can leap tall buildings in a single bound...

We do video compression, which is a job for a PC. Our encoding rigs (Cool run from the older HP 8200 w/dual 3.2 Xeons to our two tricked out servers with the last generation quad-core Xeons and 320 SCSI RAID. When you have to capture uncompressed HD you need a lot of bandwidth.

We used to do Dell, but I didn't like Michael's politics so we switched to HP. Much better. We're now at 10 out of 15 HP.

We do have one Mac for those once a month captures from HDV or the odd conversion to ProRes. Nothing much to do with the Mac per se, just the proprietary nature of Apple with some codecs.

All Mac here, been using them since the eighties.

About the only thing Windows here is IE running under Crossover for checking my web pages.

Looking forward to Snow Leopard coming out this Friday.

you can take "MAC" out of that sentence and it still works! LOL

PC here and getting time for an upgrade, just takes time... HP laptop that has served me very well for a few years, but I don't do graphics, video or other intense processing like that - just run with too many applications open at once. lol

I think the most valuable thing in how I work is duel monitors - couldn't go back to a single display. Drives me nuts when I have to work on a different system for a bit with only one monitor.

I use a PC that is a 3.0Ghz P4 HT on a 945G board, 2 GB of 533Mhz DDR2 RAM, 120Gig HDD for main drive and 500Gig HDD for all my other junk, HD Audio, 100/1000 Gigabit NIC, Nvidia GForce 7200GTS 512 ddr2 Video Card about 5 fans and a pretty blue light. My wifes computer is better than mine Sad She has an ASUS Board with same processor but 4Gig of 1066Mhz DDR2 RAM, a SATA Hitachi 500Gig 10,000 RPM HDD and a Nvidia 880GTS 768MB DDR3 Video Card and a see through case with pretty lights and she also have a 22" Samsung Monitor and I drive a 15" Hyundai Q15. We have a total of 4 computers in the office and 7 in the house. I want to build one of these for my 120" Theater so i dont have to burn DVDs all the time.
